The Lobster Bar
Oh The Lobster Bar. What can I say, the lobster bisque is the best in Newport. This rustic restaurant sits snack dab in an original seafood market with some of the best views around. I had high hopes for this place because the atmosphere was absolutely perfect. They had recently built a bar and restaurant in their seafood shed with all of the glory and ambiance of the look of weathered sea shed. How cool is that?
This is what you see when you walk into the restaurant. What you can’t see is that there are numerous lobster and seafood tanks to the right as they sell plenty of seafood from their market. I think the best part is that you can choose to buy your food there and cook it yourself or have them cook it for you. Or just eat it raw. I started this post off with the lobster bisque because they honestly have the best bisque I have ever had. It was one of the highlights of this trip.
This is what the outside deck looks like. It provides the picturesque views that you only get on the end of a dock. Its great in the morning and afternoon, but around evening time the sun can blind you.
This is an Absolute Sunset. It has cranberry, OJ, and Absolute citron. I had one sip of this drink and its Absolutely.. delicious. Plus, its a fun drink to go with the water views! Now lets get on to the food.
Seared sea scallops with coleslaw and crispy fries. Everything on this plate was amazing. The scallops had so much flavor and were seasoned perfectly. The fries were crispy which seems difficult to deliver for some restaurants.
You can’t visit this place and not order the oysters! That is, if you like raw seafood. The raw bar is as fresh as it gets and I ate like 24 of these. I survived so give them a try! I like my oysters with a dab of cocktail sauce, horseradish sauce, and hot sauce. Then squeeze 1 lemon slice all over them. Yum.
Last but not least, mussels steamed with white wine, butter, garlic, onions, and fresh herbs. This is a lighter dish that is as tasty as can be. After you eat the mussels, the best part is soaking up the broth with crispy bread. They will even give you extra bread if you can’t stop eating the broth. I wanted to drink it but I felt that it wasn’t appropriate for the time.
When you visit Newport, Rhode Island, you absolutely have to stop by the Lobster Bar! Its a little hidden gem that provides a fresh departure from the mainstream restaurants. Don’t forget, try the lobster bisque! Oh and here is a secret. Order the bar lobster bisque. They put extra lumps of lobster meat in there than the regular bisque. Cheers!
