Starting a food blog can be a satisfying hobby or an extra income potential depending on what your motives are for having one. I use my food blog as a creative outlet to display some of my best recipes for the world to see. I’m also having a crack at monetizing my food blog as an income source.
So whatever your motives are and you want to start a food blog here is a good place to start:
1. Buy a domain name from GoDaddy. A domain name is your www.example.com name. Its like your website address on the Internet. GoDaddy is a trusted domain registrar and that’s where I bought my domain name.
2. Get a hosting company to host your website. I use Syn Hosting. They have been hosting my WordPress food blog for several years and their service is outstanding. They almost never have down time either. If I have any problems they respond to my ticket promptly and have resolved every issue I’ve sent them. They can also help you set up WordPress!
3. Find a cool WordPress theme for your site. You can search the WordPress theme directory for free themes or buy one of the StudioPress Themes that are ready to go. Marlows Kitchen runs on the Genesis Framework and a StudioPress Theme. Its a powerful framework that’s fast and professional. Google loves them as well which is ALWAYS a plus.
4. Once you get your food blog up and running, consider installing these useful FREE plugins:
Akismet – This plugin is an anti-spam tool that works wonders for my blog. Spam is annoying!
EasyRecipe – This is a recipe plugin that makes listing recipes on your blog a breeze. This is what I use to display recipes on Marlows Kitchen.
Now go cook! Go learn how I improved my food photography. I am finding out that great pictures are very helpful for being a relevant food blogger!
